Tony's right on Iran's nuclear programme: get real Jack
I am no socialist and no fan of many of Tony Blair's domestic policies but, once again, on the issue of understanding the real threat posed by Islamic nut-job states (as with Iraq - or even North Korean non-Islamic ones) I have to applaud his latest stand on Iran's nuclear programme.

The papers are reporting a 'serious rift' between him and Jack Straw on the issue. Just 24 hours after Straw ruled out the prospect of an armed resolution Tony B. ruled it back in. And in doing so once more aligned himself with George W. on a key foreign policy issue.

I have always thought that there is an air of unreality about much international diplomacy - usually the UN or EU kind. Just like the thorny issue of the smacking of children the liberals and Leftist mind wants to rule out the sanction of 'physical chastisement' entirely. Yet, when the errant child, now aware that the final sanction of physical retribution has been removed, grows ever more errant and vindictive, the same indiviudals scratch their heads wondering where "it all went wrong'. In short, you never rule out the threat or possibility of retribution. or you do so at your peril.

The problem is, you see, that Iran says it has a right to nuclear power. But when one of the richest countries in terms of oil reserves says it needs a nuclear programme you have to ask serious questions. Then you also have to look to see what kind of ideology drives the pulse of the nation. Is it expansionist? Are its leaders set on conquest as Napoleon and Hitler were? Or is its 'religion' actually more than a religion? Is it also a political force committed to extermination (of Israel and of the West) and the domination of the world (the stated goal of Islam)?

In other words, while the USA and Britain may be fit nations to possess a nuclear programme both for domestic use (we lack sufficient oil resources) and weaponry (we have no aggressive, expansionist pretensions merely defensive ones) Iran and North Korea are not. The world must recognise it and act accordingly. Even to the point of 'chastising' the errant child when it screams and wails demanding it be given its nuclear toys.

Get real Jack.
